Development Associate

USA for UNFPA, established in 1998 and headquartered in New York City, is the US national partner for UNFPA, the United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health Agency. TITLE: Development Associate
REPORTS TO: Director of Leadership Giving; works closely with the Director of Partnerships
LOCATION: Hybrid (NYC Metro Area)
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time, Employee
SALARY RANGE: $50,000 – $60,000; compensation based on experience

 

POSITION SUMMARY
USA for UNFPA is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Development Associate to support the cultivation, stewardship, and engagement of high-net-worth donors and provide backend support for institutional partners. This role is integral to strengthening the development of the Leadership Giving and Partnership programs at USA for UNFPA.  The Associate will manage the Leadership Giving pipeline, support with the discovery program and will work across donor stewardship, prospect research, and data systems to support a seamless donor experience.
Additionally, the Associate will play a key role in supporting the Director of Partnerships on specific backend activities to steward and grow income from foundations and corporations. This position requires strong organizational skills, a high attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Donor Engagement & Stewardship Support (30%)
  • Coordinate and support donor engagement, including mailed appeals, stewardship materials, and tailored communications for Leadership Giving donors.
  • Oversee donor care initiatives to enhance donor retention and giving, including tracking acknowledgments, anniversaries, and key touchpoints.
  • Send timely tax acknowledgment letters and support frontline fundraisers with sending personalized thank-you emails.
  • Collaborate with fundraisers to ensure that high-touch interactions and stewardship strategies are well-documented and executed.
  • Provide support for donor engagement opportunities including briefings, receptions, and international donor trips.
Partnerships Support- Corporates and Foundations (25%)
  • Maintain accurate records of partners in Raiser’s Edge, including uploading any pipeline and prospect records
  • Support in developing any collateral materials, including briefing materials and partner proposals
  • Support the Director of Partnerships with any donor reports and submission of foundation grants
Donor Systems, Pipeline & Data Management (30%)
  • Maintain accurate records in Raiser’s Edge, including donor contact info, gift records, and engagement history.
  • Ensure accuracy of gift opportunities and oversee donor movement through the LG pipeline, including preparation and follow-up for biweekly pipeline meetings.
  • Monitor and track donor touchpoints such as tax acknowledgments and personalized outreach to ensure consistent, timely stewardship.
  • Generate donor lists and reports for mass LG donor outreach as well to inform segmentation, stewardship activities, and gift tracking.
  • Liaise with the Fundraising Support Team on database projects and list requests related to LG donors.
  • Track and reconcile LG gifts and ensure proper attribution in the database.
  • Coordinate LG appeal and mailing segmentation and ensure data is documented accurately.
  • Monitor key stewardship moments (e.g., giving anniversaries) and coordinate personalized outreach.
Prospect Research & Discovery (15%)
  • Conduct comprehensive donor research profiles for LG donor prospects and Board members ensuring alignment with USA for UNFPA’s due diligence and prospecting policies.
  • Support the development of the Leadership Giving Discovery program in collaboration with the Discovery Manager by conducting monthly donor screenings using tools such as iWave, LexisNexis, and ResearchPoint to identify, qualify, and track new high-capacity prospects.
  • Create and manage tracking systems for new LG donor prospects in ResearchPoint.
  • Support in the preparation of donor briefings for the CEO and LG fundraisers

 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or a related field
  • 2–3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor stewardship, prospect research, or related administrative support.
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management systems preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrated interest in global health, gender equality, or international development is a plus
