Data Intern

USA for UNFPA, established in 1998 and headquartered in New York City, is the US National Committee for UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health and rights agency. We support the world’s most vulnerable women and girls to realize their fullest potential and are working toward achieving: 
  • A world where women become pregnant only when they want to (ending the unmet need for family planning);
  • A world where giving birth is safe for every mother and child (ending preventable maternal deaths); and
  • A world where women and girls live free from violence and harmful practices (ending violence against women.)
Under new leadership, USA for UNFPA has developed an ambitious strategy to raise $100 million from the private sector for UNFPA’s lifesaving work by 2030. As part of that effort, we are seeking to grow our team. 

 

TITLE: Data Intern
REPORTS TO: Database Manager
LOCATION: Remote + NY/DC tristate area strongly preferred
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-Time, Intern
STIPEND: $15.00/hr (cap 120 hours) 

 

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data (Power BI) Intern to join our team. As a Data Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in data analysis, visualization, and reporting using Microsoft Power BI. This internship is designed to provide you with practical knowledge and skills in data analytics, business intelligence, and dashboard development. You will work closely with our database manager and business stakeholders to create impactful reports and visualizations that drive data-informed decision-making.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the development of interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Collaborate with our database manager and business stakeholders to understand our reporting requirements and translate them into effective Power BI solutions.
  • Conduct data analysis and help identify data clean up that will ensure accurate and reliable reporting outputs.
  • Help develop a process to extract data from various sources, including spreadsheets and APIs, and build a data model.
  • Create and maintain documentation for Power BI reports, including data models and report specifications.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Power BI reports to ensure data integrity and performance optimization.
  • Assist in develop visualizations to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and measure business metrics.
  • Collaborate with team members to share knowledge and insights, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI; willingness to learn Power BI is essential.
  • Solid understanding of data analysis concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data manipulation techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of data querying and manipulation.
  • Familiarity with data visualization concepts and tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
