Advisory Council Member

Objective

The USA for UNFPA Advisory Council is comprised of individuals who advise and support the mission of UNFPA by providing specialized expertise. The CEO and Governance Committee have identified key areas where Advisory Council members can make an impact—strengthening the organization during a rebrand and period of significant growth. Together, we can achieve three transformational goals: zero unmet need for family planning, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero violence against women and harmful practices worldwide.

Terms

Members utilize their professional expertise to advise and support USA for UNFPA staff with specific projects and tasks to advance and strengthen the organization. The number of volunteer hours will be determined on a case-by-case and as-needed basis throughout the year.
USA for UNFPA expects members to serve a two-year commitment, with the option to extend if both parties are agreeable. Either USA for UNFPA or Advisory Council members will have the option to terminate the relationship at any time.
Advisory Council members have no governing or fiduciary responsibilities.

Member Benefits

The Advisory Council is a special group that is critical to USA for UNFPA’s success and will be acknowledged as such. All members will be invited to high-level events and briefings to learn more about our work and connect with the UNFPA community.
Members will be recognized on our website and through other opportunities as they present themselves. USA for UNFPA will also consider offering in-kind acknowledgments in recognition of the Council Member’s time where appropriate.

Advisory Council Member Profiles

We are seeking candidates who bring expertise in one or more of the following:
Human Resources: USA for UNFPA is expanding our team. As we grow there is a need to mitigate risks and liability for the organization, and to inform and protect staff. Specifically, we require expertise in: understanding new State laws/regulations and implications to the organization, hybrid working, benefit optimization, and HR systems.
IT: Support is needed to conduct an IT assessment that provides a detailed report with actionable insights and recommendations on how we can streamline processes, mitigate risks, control costs, and rationalize current and emerging technologies that would improve our organization.
Fundraising systems: As we continue to grow our fundraising program, support is needed to work with the team to sense check and identify the best database and fundraising systems to implement. Support is also needed in securing pro-bono services to assist in the system migration and refine integrations between systems.
Marketing & Branding: We recently launched our new brand, USA for UNFPA, and have ambitious plans to become the voice for global reproductive health in the United States. Support is needed to help raise U4U’s brand awareness and meet ambitious online fundraising targets. This includes advising on brand and marketing best practices, helping the team devise a solid strategy to increase both, and assessing the value add of potential vendors.
Media & Partnerships: As part of our brand building and fundraising efforts, USA for UNFPA is launching our Leadership Council, seeking to build new partnerships with influencers, brands, and celebrities. We require an advisor to the Leadership Council who can help build a compelling structure that will attract top talent, identify and secure potential partners, and create media engagements that drive real growth.
