ABOUT US

Founded in 1969, UNFPA is the lead United Nations sexual and reproductive health and rights agency. Today, UNFPA works in more than 150 countries to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every woman and girl can reach her fullest potential.

Established by concerned American citizens, USA for UNFPA is a U.S.-based non-profit organization, dedicated to building support for UNFPA’s work within the United States. We raise awareness among Americans about global sexual and reproductive health, mobilize support to provide lifesaving care to women and girls worldwide, and advocate for gender equality.

Our Vision

A world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every woman and girl can reach her fullest potential.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide women and girls everywhere with lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care and empower them to decide what is best for their bodies, families, and futures.

The path forward: Her. Now!

To achieve our vision, we have embarked on an ambitious campaign to raise $100 million for global sexual and reproductive health care by 2030 and realize UNFPA’s transformative results: zero unmet demand for contraceptives, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero incidents of violence against women and girls.
The Her. Now! campaign unites our powerful community of supporters around the voices and experiences of women and girls across the globe, ultimately securing the sustainable investment needed to create a safer, healthier, more inclusive world for us all. We have laid out the path ahead, and through your partnership, we can be there for her. Now!

OUR WORK

Family Planning

Family Planning

Today, 218 million women who want to avoid pregnancy are not using safe and effective family planning methods. Access to modern family planning resources and science-based, human rights-grounded information is essential to securing the health and futures of women and girls. We provide this care and work with communities so women and girls have the power to make decisions for their bodies, lives, and futures.
Maternal Health

Maternal Health

Every two minutes, a woman dies from preventable pregnancy and childbirth complications. The vast majority of these needless deaths occur in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia, where poverty, conflict, and other emergencies put women and girls at risk. We make motherhood safe by training, equipping, and deploying midwives so pregnant women have access to lifesaving prenatal and safe delivery care.
Ending Violence Against Women

Ending Violence Against Women

Violence against women and girls, including harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation, is widespread. In fact, 1 in 3 women will experience sexual or physical violence at the hands of a partner. We work to end violence against women and girls for good, including by supporting survivors with mental health counseling, safe spaces, and education and employment opportunities so they can rebuild their lives.
Humanitarian Response

Humanitarian Response

Even before an emergency, we are on the ground strengthening health care systems and delivering critical supplies and lifesaving care. So, when crisis does strike in Ukraine, Ethiopia, Haiti, Afghanistan, or elsewhere, we are there. We have the tools, relationships, and expertise necessary to quickly restore access to lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care and bring women and girls a sense of safety and dignity.
