95% of teenage pregnancies occur in girls who are outside the educational system. And far too often, teenage pregnancy is the result of sexual violence. Teenage mothers face additional barriers to reaching their fullest potential.

UNFPA El Salvador is striving to reach three ZEROS: 

  • Zero unmet need for contraception and family planning services.
  • Zero preventable maternal deaths.
  • Zero incidents of violence against women and girls, including harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation.

 

UNFPA is working to address the root causes of these zeros in El Salvador through the Realize Your Dreams scholarship program which empowers vulnerable girls and adolescents with educational opportunities.
