Senior Digital Communications Associate

USA for UNFPA, established in 1998 and headquartered in New York City, is the US national committee for UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health and rights agency. We work to achieve zero unmet demands for contraception and family planning services, zero preventable maternal deaths, and zero incidents of violence toward women and girls, including harmful practices like child marriage and female genital mutilation.  
Under new leadership, USA for UNFPA has developed an ambitious strategy to raise $100 million for UNFPA’s lifesaving work by 2030. As part of that effort, we are seeking to grow our team. 


TITLE: Senior Digital Communications Associate 
REPORTS TO: Director of Digital Fundraising & Engagement 
LOCATION: Hybrid, Northeast (New York City tristate or Washington DC tristate regions preferred) 
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience. 


Reporting to the Director of Digital Fundraising and Engagement, the Senior Communications Associate will be a key member of our growing marketing team, taking the lead on creating content and energizing our digital platforms to achieve awareness, engagement, and stewardship goals. 
Our marketing team focuses on three primary functions: (1) new donor acquisition; (2) donor engagement and retention; and (3) brand marketing and communications. This position will focus on brand marketing but will also get to support and contribute to the other functions, as needed.  
Specifically, this role will oversee our earned digital communication program, including social media strategy, website updates and improvements, as well as coordinating digital communication and marketing campaigns that uplift reproductive health care and rights for women and girls around the world.

Digital Campaigns and Content Development (30%) 
  • Ideate, develop, and generate digital communications campaigns and content that advance the goals of USA for UNFPA 
  • Draft copy for emails, blog posts, and other marketing collateral with an emphasis on engagement and stewardship 
  • Support other departments in their content creation needs   
  • Preparing digital content for launch on their respective platforms as needed 
  • Manage photo requests  
  • Support with our donation platform and update as required   
  • Create content and manage development of our annual report 
  • Overseeing and engaging with supporter-backed peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns 
  • Complete other projects and support the marketing team as required 
Social Media Management (40%) 
  • Manage all social media accounts, including consistent posting and engaging with supporters  
  • Develop social media calendar for all the platforms and oversee content development process from ideation, to production, to launch 
  • Assemble social media toolkits for external stakeholders 
  • Work with the staff to ensure current campaigns are reflected in social media content  
  • Identify and engage with social influencers and maintain social media community standards to build an active social community for USA for UNFPA 
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, platforms, and strategy. Make recommendations regarding new and emerging social medial platforms and establish new platforms when agreed  
  • Serve as focal point to UNFPA’s global social media team 
  • Serve as social media expert for senior staff and board members to leverage their owned social media properties 
  • Work with external designers to develop graphics as needed 
Website Management (30%) 
  • Manage USA for UNFPA’s website and ensure the timely, accurate, and relevant publishing of content  
  • Manage all website updates and additions, ensuring cohesiveness in USA for UNFPA’s message and brand integrity and that copy is SEO-friendly  
  • Work with IT consultant on maintaining technical infrastructure, domain management, hosting, regular backups, and health checks  
  • Monitor core key performance indicators (KPIs) for channels, producing monthly and quarterly reports to optimize efforts to reach better results 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience 
  • Minimum 2-4 years of working experience in the areas of digital communication is required 
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills. Can take complex topics or issues and distill into effective messaging while working around messaging constraints  
  • Experience running social media accounts and with reporting on social media analytics 
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex issues and representing such information in a clear and concise written manner for lay audiences 
  • An instinct for what resonates with audiences online and how to build engagement and enlist new supporters within brand guidelines 
  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and manage projects simultaneously with independence 
  • Familiarity or trainability with website CMS systems: WordPress (preferred), Drupal, etc. 
  • Familiarity or trainability with donation processor systems: FundraiseUp (preferred), ActBlue, Anedot, etc. 
  • Basic ability to manipulate imagery through tools like Canva or equivalent. More formal graphic design and/or videography experience is a plus, but not required 
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
  • Consistent new, error-free content creation across social media and website 
  • Number of followers across social platforms 
  • Engagement rate on social platforms (comments, shares, likes, etc.) 
  • Website views 
  • Website bounce rate 
  • Website conversions 
  • Brand lift and engagement around earned communication campaigns 
  • Seamless cross-department support (e.g. providing content for development team) 
  • Smooth production of organization’s annual report 
  • Other tasks as assigned
