USA for UNFPA
Jordan Delegation

From September 8-14, 2023, USA for UNFPA’s custom leadership trip to Jordan will allow you the unique opportunity to engage with UNFPA’s maternal and reproductive health services. We will see firsthand how UNFPA is delivering its transformative results within a humanitarian context – ending all preventable maternal deaths, ending the unmet need for family planning, and ending violence against women and girls.
Throughout our trip, we will visit various UNFPA programs in the capital city of Amman and within two refugee settings at Zaatari refugee camp and Azraq refugee camp. We will also offer the opportunity to visit Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s seven wonders.
Your donation of $5,000 or more today confirms your participation on this incredible trip. Your gift will support the lifesaving work of UNFPA Jordan’s team, and recognize their efforts to create a seamless and memorable experience for our delegation.

DELEGATION OVERVIEW

As the Syrian crisis enters its twelfth year, the situation for millions of displaced Syrians remains dire, with around 5.6 million refugees still seeking safety in neighboring countries. Jordan is one of the countries that has been most affected by this crisis, hosting the second highest number of refugees per capita worldwide. UNFPA Jordan is committed to providing sexual and reproductive health services to women and girls in displaced communities. Our delegation will visit UNFPA Jordan’s programs at Zaatari and Azaq refugee camps.

Zaatari refugee camp is located 45 miles northeast of the capital city, Amman in Jordan and currently hosts around 80,000 people. It remains the largest refugee camp in the Middle East and one of the largest in the world. UNFPA has been present in Zaatari camp from the first day of the camp’s establishment to respond to the reproductive health needs of women, girls and youth. Since the camp’s inception in 2012, UNFPA has delivered over 14,666 babies without a single maternal death, an achievement we aim for globally.

Azraq refugee camp is home to 44,065 Syrian refugees and was opened in April 2014 in response to overcrowding at Zaatari Refugee Camp. Since 2014, UNFPA has equipped 3 reproductive health clinics, 3 Women and Girls Safe Spaces and a mobile clinic within the camp. Around 8,000 women and girls depend on these facilities to access services, such as family planning counseling, support for survivors of sexual violence, counselling as well as referral services to a network of affiliated hospitals inside and outside the camp.
